The 51th IAVS Symposium in South
Africa: 7-12 September, 2008
In 2008 the
IAVS annual symposium will be held in
South
Africa
in September
(1 week including a mid-symposium excursion to Cape Peninsula)
or the surrounds of Hermanus. The Organizing
Committee under the leadership of Prof. L. Mucina (President), Prof. K.J. Esler (Vice-President) and
Prof. V.R. Smith (Vice-President), assisted by an able team of colleagues at
large (incl. Prof. G.JH. Bredenkamp and R. Lubke) is currently busy with preparation of the meetings
topic, agenda and pre-symposium and post-symposium excursions (Namaqualand, Capensis, Eastern
Cape, Kruger National Park). Interested colleagues may contact Prof. L. Mucina at LM3@sun.ac.za for information on the upcoming
meeting.
The deadline for submission of abstracts is 1 July 2008.

The 52th IAVS Symposium on the island of Crete, Greece, 30 May - 4 June, 2009.
The 2009 symposium will be held in the city of Chania on the island of Crete. Chania is the capital of the Prefecture of Chania, in western Crete. The main theme of the symposium will be “Vegetation processes and human impact in a changing world”. We invite you to submit an abstract for a paper on a subject related to these topics. Papers may be presented orally or as posters. The second circular will contain more details on the topics and sub-topics of the Symposium, as well as details concerning the submission of abstracts. The Pre-Symposium excursion (25 May – 29 May 2009): will focus on Mediterranean landscapes and vegetation but cultural aspects of Eastern Crete will also be included. The Post-Symposium excursion (5 June – 9 June 2009) will include the area around the Peloponnisos (southern Greece). For more information, consult the First Circular.
