Young Scientists
Young Scientists
Who we are

Our session is formed by the IAVS’s “Young Scientists”, loosely defined as people at an early stage in their career, regardless of age or enrolment status at a university. Our main aim is to enhance the connection among young scientists and the rest of the association. We support vegetation scientists at their early career stages and strive for their better visibility in the field. Every two years a new steering committee is elected. The steering committee is responsible to develop several actions towards enhancing the young-scientists connectivity and development. The current IAVS YS steering committee (2021-2023) is formed by a diverse and enthusiastic group, keen to put forward their ideas. Our main action so far is giving a platform to young scientists with diverse backgrounds to showcase their work, highlighting their profiles on social media. In addition, for this year’s IAVS symposium, we pitched a new format of presentation “virtual excursions”. We also plan to establish a mentoring program that will benefit young scientists to receive any sort of aid on their struggles (eg. feedback in funding proposals and manuscript writing). Finally, we have a goal to gather vegetation scientists to put together a collaborative paper of mutual interest.
