Please note that abstract submission is now closed.

We offer the following four types of contributions:

  • oral presentation (15 minutes, pre-recorded)
  • poster presentation (pdf format) with lightning talk (2 minutes, pre-recorded)
  • poster presentation without lightning talk (posters delivered in pdf format)
  • virtual excursions (short pre-recorded video introducing vegetation of given region; details of this format are below)

Each participant can be the presenting author on up to one oral and up to one poster presentation. In addition to these, she/he can be proposing up to one virtual excursion.

About Virtual Excursions. The main goal of this format is to give the participants an opportunity to share their first-hand scientific experiences during the symposium in a short video (up to 10 minutes). The video should be related to an ongoing project in vegetation science and preferably made in a ‘field or lab environment’. Sample processing demonstrations are also welcome as a way to accommodate field access restrictions due to the pandemic. Similarly, if the participant’s project is not an experiment, highlighting findings/methods on real-world examples will be acceptable (e.g. comparing different areas). The format is flexible - we leave freedom for authors to be creative and show their research accordingly. For instance, a video could start with a brief introduction of the participant, followed by highlighting their research questions and key methods used to answer them, as if the participant was demonstrating their study to a visitor in their study site. This format is not appropriate for the presentation of formal research talks (e.g. in a slide show). When preparing the abstract for the Virtual Excursion, please provide a description of what the video is going to show. We especially encourage the participation of young scientists and under-represented groups, but all applications are welcome.
